Art and Design & Design & Technology
Art and Design
The children are presented with a wide variety of materials and techniques in the early years, which they continue to develop and apply as they progress throughout the school. They experience working with a wide range of media, developing skills in drawing, painting, 3D work, textiles and printing. An appreciation of beauty through awareness of the work of famous artists as well as their own surroundings is encouraged.
They are taught to be observant, to investigate their surroundings and to derive joy through developing their creativity.

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, children design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
Children learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
