Shooting Stars

Welcome to Shooting Stars class
Welcome to our Foundation Stage unit. This unit aims to provide children aged 3 to 5 years with the best possible start to school life.
Lets meet the team:
Early Years Lead and Class teacher: Sandra Meehan
Nursery Practitioner: Kirsty Bayford
Shooting Stars class follows the newly revised Early Years Foundation Stage framework using the curriculum guidance from the document 'Development Matters' to ensure that each individual child flourishes through a carefully planned environment that aims to meet the children's specific learning requirements.

Shooting stars provision offers a homely indoor area, a bespoke covered outside area catering to all weathers and a natural area which is used frequently for activities including den building, deconstructed role play and fun in the mud pit. The children are encouraged to explore, create and develop physical and intellectual skills through a free flow environment which has been especially designed to meet their developmental needs and encourage independence. The children are also encouraged to explore the wider outdoor area of the school.

 Each term within the Foundation Stage unit the class learns though a mix of formal, play based and child lead activities designed to enhance and imbed their knowledge and understanding within the curriculum, this includes learning to read using Little Wandle Letters and Sounds, developing skill in numbers using White Rose Math's alongside Numberblocks Math's and learning about the world around us through topics including;
  • Marvelous Me
  • Celebrations
  • Around the World
  • New Life
  • The Royal Family
  • Fairy Tales
To find out more please see the topic web opposite.
As your children settles into the unit, we will encourage them to share their experiences with you and invite the children to share their knowledge, understandings and passions with us.
