Have a look at our topic webs to see all the exciting things we learn about in class! We love learning and working together as a team.
This term our learning is centered around the key question 'How should we treat animals?' and we will be looking at animals under the ocean. We will also be thinking about responsibility, beauty and creativity.
From January we will be teaching reading through a whole class guided reading using the VIPERS approach- vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, summarising and sequencing. We will aim for 30 minute sessions of whole class reading every day and the breadth of texts will include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, songs and picture books. Children will have reading workbooks and there will be constant assessment every day from the teacher and, if there is one, the TA.
Some children will still need 1:1 reading sessions with a teacher, parent helper or TA within a week but this will never happen during a reading lesson.
Our class novel for the Spring term is Tilly and the Time Machine by Adrian Edmondson - a lovely story about a little girl whose dad builds a time machine in the shed. There's only one place she really wants to go: back to her sixth birthday party, when she ate too many cupcakes and her mummy was still here.
